In our continued effort to bring the most advanced technology to our patients, we offer an additional test for all ages. Optical Coherence Tomography is fast, comfortable and has no radiation, just like the “click” of a camera!

Many eye problems can develop without warning and progress with no symptoms. Early on, you might not even notice or complain of any changes in your vision, especially children. However, diseases and complications such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal tears or detachments as well as other health problems such as diabetes can be detected with a thorough eye exam. The retina is the part of your eye that catches the image of what you are looking at, similar to the film in a camera.

An Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT) provides cross-sectional images of your retina similar to an MRI scan. This layer-by-layer investigation assists in early detection of sight threatening eye conditions.

OHIP does not cover this test, however most private insurance companies do.
